A busy and very good day for Iceni Velo. Today we held our 2012 road race on the short sharp circuit around Stoke Holy Cross which finishes at the top of the renowned Skeets hill.
I wasn’t particularly concerned about this as I had no great aspirations for the race so I rolled up to the start, took of my jacket and arm warmers and leant over the barriers to get a good luck hug from daughter #2 – it was at this point that the exceptionally loud starting pistol went and everyone apart from me started racing!
Broome Heath was pretty crisp at 7.00am on Sunday morning and - thanks to race organiser, Shaun Aldous, 5 volunteers, 140 white stakes and 4km of course tape - was slowly being transformed from a dog walkers mecca to a cyclo cross race course.
It was really touch and go as to whether i’d ride this event – it was a bit of an unknown, but from what i’d seen on the old internet, it looked like a fun evening – i’d play it by ear.
A massive thank you to everyone that made our first Rollapaluza event a huge success. As it was something new for Norwich and the fact that Iceni Velo is less than a year old it was a tall order but true to form the amazing supports of Iceni Velo stepped up and came along.
We are delighted to announce that Iceni Velo will be hosting a night of high octane and high cadence action with Rollapuluza.
I can't believe it we've just welcomed our 100th member on board! When we sat in a pub earlier this year it was dark, raining, cold, wet & windy. Not that different to the weather today! The few of us sat round that table, could only have dreamt that we would ever get to 100 members in the club, let alone within it's first year.
Having completed the Dragon Ride for the first time in 2010 and thoughly enjoying it i made this a must do ride again this year As the Dragon usually clashes with the Norwich 100 i did think about giving up my ride to support the IV members in our first year at Norfolks largest mass [...]
