It was really touch and go as to whether i’d ride this event – it was a bit of an unknown, but from what i’d seen on the old internet, it looked like a fun evening – i’d play it by ear.
Riders - Rob Bacon, Jason Smith, Simon Brierley and Ian Jones. The ride was daunting undertaken over three days; a total of 320 miles with about 5700 meters of climbing around Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and up onto Exmoor.
When we arrived at Ixworth it was busy with lots of riders there, I was wondering who was going to be in my race. We took my bike to the gear check and we were told that my gears were to long so I had to have them adjusted so I couldn't get into top gear. Next we went to sign on and passed Dean Downing in the hall.
Sportive two of the year and my second atempt at the Lakeland Loop, 70 miles of stunning scenery and equally stunningly hard climbs This has now become an annual event for the Frisby family, this year as last year i have arranged a family holiday in lakes and quite by coincidence this sportive takes place the day after we arrive
Having completed a season of sportives during 2010 i have well and truly go the sportive bug. The comarardrie that i have expierienced with my fellow club members at events such as the Dragon Ride and the infamous Autumn Epic keeps me wanting more.
Training has been going pretty well over the past couple of months – I’ve been getting in some consistent rides, not had more than 3 days off the bike since January, and only twice had 3 days off. So, the feeling you get when I get on the bike has been more or less what i’ve been expecting – no “god, i’ve lost all fitness” troughs that you get when your training’s a bit up and down.
