Iceni Velo is pleased to announce a whole day of racing on April 30! The men's race starts earlier than in previous years, at 11:00, and for the first time we are running a women's race, at 14:30. Both races are on the same course, the "Shotesham Circuit" that features quiet rolling roads and lanes - plus the punchy Skeet's Hill which is also where the finish line is located.
We have secured a generous prize fund, and what's more we will award equal prizes for the men's and women's races!
Morning race: Men's Race Programme
Afternoon race: Women's Race Programme
All aspects of the event are managed by volunteers from our club to ensure that racers can sign in with little stress and have a safe time when out on their bikes. In the rare case of an incident we are employing the services of St John Ambulance. The roads are marshalled so that the bike race takes priority at junctions, and for both races the motorbike riders from the National Escort Group (NEG) will patrol the race to ensure that other road users are well aware of your presence.
The women's race is open to all categories, and you can purchase a British Cycling day licence on the day if you aren't a British Cycling member or if you don't have a full racing licence. The men's race is part of the Eastern Road Race League (ERRL), and the women's race is part of the Women's Eastern Racing League (WERL). The event will take place on the Shotesham Course; there will be a maximum of 50 riders per race on the day. Entry on the day will be available up to the maximum allowed on the permit. There will be no refunds after the closing date (April 10).
Entries are now closed, but we are accepting entries on the day! Please note, though, that the men's event is over-subscribed. Read more and see the list of entrants on the British Cycling website!
Snacks, cake and hot drinks will be available at the headquarters, Saxlingham Nethergate Village Hall. There are also toilet facilities at the hall, and there is plenty of space in case the weather turns nasty.
We welcome spectators to come and give the racers lots of encouragement! All we ask is that you follow any instructions from the race officials and don't get too close to the action. A favourite viewing point is "The Globe", a pub in Shotesham, where you can enjoy some refreshments whilst the race whizzes past.
